Welcome back to the Therapy Spot, everyone! Today, let’s talk about getting back your energy to complete things you know you want done. If you lack the motivation to push the “action” button and get down to business, this podcast is for you.

Have you ever caught yourself thinking, “It’s just one of those days” as you look over your to-do list? No matter what you do, you just can’t seem to get started on those tasks you know you need to accomplish. What do you feel when you’re stuck in a period of low motivation?

  • Tired
  • Bored
  • Anxious

You don’t feel this way because the tasks on your list are impossible — unless you’ve decided today is the day you single-handedly achieve world peace! I’m willing to bet that your list involves a solid dose of “adulting,” or putting your home in order. You know you’ll feel better once you cross them off your list, so what is stopping you?

When you lack the energy to take action, you just need a little help from your friends. In this case, those friends are some of the parts inside of you. That’s right: it’s time for your manager parts to do their job.

Motivating Your Managers

Now, this is easier said than done. Your manager parts may have a skill deficit, a performance deficit, or both. A skill deficit might show up as, “I really need to fix that broken doorknob, but I don’t know how.” Performance deficit looks like, “What if I fix the doorknob and it just breaks again?” In both cases, your managers can’t motivate you.

So what can you do? Join me, and let’s talk about the best way to nurture caring manager skills and get our motivation back.

I hope this podcast has given you the tools to regain your motivation and work towards balance. When you are in balance, you will feel calm, connected, confident, and at peace. I encourage anyone just getting started to look into this free course based on Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindful Based Stress Reduction program.
